Does the American governent even care anymore part 2.?
And why do our senators care more about their votes and approval ratings then they do about anything important?
And howcome the American governent hasn’t done anything about our healthcare or education systems, people everyday are being cheated out of money by health Insurance Companies and does anybody do anything about it?
Lets change directions here and start on another question I would love to have answered.
Why is it that the kids who seem to goof off the most or the “Special ed” kids seem to have the highest test scores?
I have add, and sleep through most of my classes yet I got a commendation on 1/2 of my statewide test, passed 3/4 of them, (failed math) and even got recognised by some book who publishes the names of students who do well on stuff like this. Not just that but the two kids sitting next to me who talked the whole class time got a higher score then most of the class and yet nobody has looked into this as a way to reform education.
You keep saying WHY ,, Well it because of bush sr, and jr, and all in between

Handbook on Statewide Systems of Support (PB) $54.82 As subsequent chapters point out, the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) requires states to provide assistance to districts in improving the schools within their purview. Of course, the U.S. Constitution and federal laws leave the control of education largely to the states, and states have long provided support to school districts. In return for federal monies, however, NCLB requires states to provide such help under the statewide systems of support (SSOS) provision of the Act. The purposes of this Handbook are to survey the research related to statewide systems of support, to present the experience and insights of educational leaders in how such support can best be conducted, and to derive actionable principles for improving schools. It is intended for use not only by the staff of the U.S. Department of Education-sponsored Regional Centers that serve state department staff but also by the staff of school districts and schools. Also sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, the Center on Innovation & Improvement (CII) previously developed the Handbook on Restructuring and Substantial School Improvement (Walberg, 2007) that became the basis of CII’s technical assistance to Regional Centers on this topic. CII made available for downloading Power Point presentations and web-based seminars ("webinars") based on the previous Handbook. CII’s intended audiences widely employed the previous Handbook on Restructuring and Substantial School Improvement and auxiliary materials and found them useful in their technical assistance efforts to disseminate and encourage evidence-based ideas for restructuring and improving schools. With advice from the U.S. Department of Education, scholarly experts, and experienced educators in the Regional Centers, state departments of education, and school districts, the CII staff concluded that what it envisioned as the present Handbook would be similarly useful. |

Health Insurance $44.79 Health insurance is insurance that pays for medical expenses. It is sometimes used more broadly to include insurance covering disability or long-term nursing or custodial care needs. It may be provided through a government-sponsored social insurance program, or from private insurance companies. It may be purchased on a group basis (e.g., by a firm to cover its employees) or purchased by individual consumers. In each case, the covered groups or individuals pay premiums or taxes to help protect themselves from high or unexpected healthcare expenses. Similar benefits paying for medical expenses may also be provided through social welfare programs funded by the government. By estimating the overall risk of healthcare expenses, a routine finance structure (such as a monthly premium or annual tax) can be developed, ensuring that money is available to pay for the healthcare benefits specified in the insurance agreement. The benefit is administered by a central organization such as a government agency, private business, or not-for-profit entity. |

Health Care, Ethics and Insurance $43.94 This volume is an exploration of the ethical issues raised by health insurance, which is particularly timely in the light of recent advances in medical research and political economy. Focusing on a wide range of areas, such as AIDS, genetic engineering, screening and underwriting, new disability legislation and the ethics of private and public health insurance, this comprehensive and sometimes controversial book provides an essential survey of the key issues in health insurance. Divided into two parts, the first considers the ethics of underwriting, risk assessment and the acceptance and refusal of insurance risk by insurers. Discussing the unjust treatment of high-risk applicants, the authors identify sources of unfairness to both parties of the insurance contract, indicating how reasonable trade-offs can be made. The second part considers the argument for a mix of public and private insurance for acute and long-term care, offering recommendations for changes in the balance of social insurance, and discussing the shift toward long-term contracts in private health care and pension insurance. |

Risk Management and Insurance $58.45 For many years, introductory insurance textbooks presented insurance as a subject based in contracts. Slowly, the course has moved toward a consumer orientation, providing students with a broad, descriptive survey of the insurance field, covering topics such as legal aspects, life and health, and property and liability. Over the past 10 years, textbooks began to promote, and to a limited degree, incorporate a stronger business risk management component while maintaining a consumer orientation. Harrington/Niehaus’ Risk Management and Insurance 2e is written to take the next step offering the essential aspects of insurance contracts and the insurance industry while providing a substantially more conceptual analysis and attention to business risk management and public policy issues that exists in current texts. |

Universal Life Insurance $44.26 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Universal life insurance (often shortened to UL) is a type of permanent life insurance based on a cash value. That is, the policy is established with the insurer where premium payments above the cost of insurance are credited to the cash value of the policy. The cash value is credited each month with interest, and the policy is debited each month by a cost of insurance (COI) charge, as well as any other policy charges and fees which are drawn from the cash value if no premium payment is made that month. The interest credited to the account is determined by the insurer; sometimes it is pegged to a financial index such as a bond or other interest rate index. |

Insurance Law: Doctrines and Principles $52.9 The second edition of Insurance Law: Doctrines and Principles published six years after the widely acclaimed first edition, builds on the reputation of the first edition by offering a detailed examination of the developing law of insurance, combining exposition of the law with critical analysis. The book is designed with the needs of the typical undergraduate in mind, while also providing the essential framework for those studying insurance law at postgraduate level. The text is enhanced by extensive citations to case law and academic commentaries, making the book ideal for students, scholars and practitioners alike. This new edition has been substantially restructured to complement the authors Insurance Law: Cases and Materials (Hart Publishing, 2004). The book is divided into two parts. Part I considers the regulation of insurance business and the general principles underlying the law of insurance contracts. Part II examines the way in which these principles are shaped by the particular insurance context in which they operate. Insurance law is a rapidly developing subject and this edition takes account of the many significant judicial and statutory developments. The book is readable and authoritative, with a sound grasp of the realities of insurance practice; it is well sourced and generous with supplementary points. A welcome addition to the writing team is Rob Merkin, Lloyds Law Reports Professor of Commercial Law at the University of Southampton, who has contributed new chapters on reinsurance and conflicts of law.The first edition was cited with approval by the Supreme Court of Canada in Oldfield v Transamerica Life Insurance Co of Canada (2002)."Lowry & Rawlings is a welcome addition to the ranks of insurance law textbooks and a serious contender for the student readership in this field."Nicholas Legh-Jones QC, Lloyds Maritime Commercial Law Quarterly"I recommend the book for undergraduate use, and as a starting point for postgraduate use. Public Insurance and Private Markets $3.95 As America debates the merits of government-provided health insurance, it is important to note that the U.S. government is already the largest insurance provider in the world. For decades, it has used taxpayer funds to support the world’s largest health care insurance programs (Medicare and Medicaid) as well as the biggest pension and disability insurance system (Social Security). The recent economic crisis has prompted the government to dramatically increase its insurance role by assuming large equity positions in private firms and bailing out troubled mortgages buyers and sellers. Do these public insurance programs improve social welfare? Or does government intervention risk moral hazard and result in inefficient programs that would be better handled by the private sector? In Public Insurance and Private Markets, leading economists critically examine the government’s role in insuring against pension fund shortfalls, crop losses, property damage from floods and other natural catastrophes, bank failure, and terrorism. Jeffrey R. Brown and his coauthors argue that government intervention must always be economically justified; that risk adjusted premiums are essential; that the true taxpayer burden for public insurance programs must be recognized; and that private markets are capable of transferring risk without government intervention. Poorly designed government insurance programs result in misallocation of resources, excessive risk-taking, and potentially enormous burdens on current and future taxpayers. Public Insurance and Private Markets offers market-based guidelines for the proper scope of government intervention and the design of public insurance programs_guidelines that will benefit the U.S. economy and protect the resources of future generations. |

Stochastic Control in Insurance $94.78 Stochastic control is one of the methods being used to find optimal decision-making strategies in fields such as operations research and mathematical finance. In recent years, stochastic control techniques have been applied to non-life insurance problems, and in life insurance the theory has been further developed. This book provides a systematic treatment of optimal control methods applied to problems from insurance and investment, complete with detailed proofs. The theory is discussed and illustrated by way of examples, using concrete simple optimisation problems that occur in the actuarial sciences. The problems come from non-life insurance as well as life and pension insurance and also cover the famous Merton problem from mathematical finance. Wherever possible, the proofs are probabilistic but in some cases well-established analytical methods are used. The book is directed towards graduate students and researchers in actuarial science and mathematical finance who want to learn stochastic control within an insurance setting, but it will also appeal to applied probabilists interested in the insurance applications and to practitioners who want to learn more about how the method works. Readers should be familiar with basic probability theory and have a working knowledge of Brownian motion, Markov processes, martingales and stochastic calculus. Some knowledge of measure theory will also be useful for following the proofs. |

Risk Analysis in Finance and Insurance $24.69 Historically, financial and insurance risks were separate subjects most often analyzed using qualitative methods. The development of quantitative methods based on stochastic analysis is an important achievement of modern financial mathematics, one that can naturally be extended and applied in actuarial mathematics. Risk Analysis in Finance and Insurance offers the first comprehensive and accessible introduction to the ideas, methods, and probabilistic models that have transformed risk management into a quantitative science and led to unified methods for analyzing insurance and finance risks. The author’s approach is based on a methodology for estimating the present value of future payments given current financial, insurance, and other information, which leads to proper, practical definitions of the price of a financial contract, the premium for an insurance policy, and the reserve of an insurance company. Self-contained and full of exercises and worked examples, Risk Analysis in Finance and Insurance serves equally well as a text for courses in financial and actuarial mathematics and as a valuable reference for financial analysts and actuaries. Ancillary electronic materials will be available for download from the publisher’s Web site. |

The Handbook of Insurance-Linked Securities $74.27 ""Luca Albertini and Pauline Barrieu are to be congratulated on this volume. Written in a period where structured projects in finance are having a difficult time, it is worthwhile to return to the cradle of securitisation: insurance. Spread out over three parts (life, non- life, and tax and regulatory issues) the 26 chapters, written mainly by practitioners, give an excellent overview of this challenging field of modern insurance. Methodology and examples nicely go hand in hand. The overall slant being towards actual analyses of concrete products. No doubt this book will become a milestone going forward for actuarial students, researchers, regulators and practitioners alike."" –Paul Embrechts, Professor of Mathematics and Director of RiskLab, ETH Zurich The convergence of insurance with the capital markets has opened up an alternative channel for insurers to transfer risk, raise capital and optimize their regulatory reserves as well as offering institutions a source of relatively liquid investment with limited correlation with other exposures. One of the financial instruments allowing for the cession of insurance-related risks to the capital markets is Insurance-Linked Securities (ILS). This book provides hands-on information essential for market participants, drawing on the insights and expertise of an impressive team of international market players, representing the various aspects and perspectives of this growing sector. The book presents the state of the art in Insurance-Linked Securitization, by exploring the various roles for the different parties involved in the transactions, the motivation for the transaction sponsors, the potential inherent pitfalls, the latest developments and transaction structures and the key challenges faced by the market. The book is organized into parts, each covering a specific topic or sector of the market. After a general overview of the ILS market, the Insurance-Linked Securitization process is studied in detail. A distinction is made between non-life and life securitization, due to the specificities of each sector. The process and all the actors involved are identified and considered in a comprehensive and systematic way. The concepts are first looked at in a general way, before the analysis of relevant case studies where the ILS technology is applied. Particular focus is given to: the key stages in both non-life and life securitizations, including the general features of the transactions, the cedant’s perspectives, the legal issues, the rating methodologies, the choice of an appropriate trigger and the risk modeling, the particular challenges related to longevity securitization, the investor’s perspective and the question of the management of a portfolio of ILS, the general issues related to insurance-linked securitization, such as accounting and tax issues, regulatory issues and solvency capital requirements. The book is accompanied by a website www.wiley.com/ |
